چکیده
This paper summarizes recent joint work towards a constitutive modelling framework for dense granular suspensions. The aim is to create time-dependent, tensorial theory that can implement the physics described in steady state by Wyart-Cates model. model of shear thickening suspensions supposes lubrication films break above characteristic normal force so frictional contact forces come into play: resulting non-sliding constraints be enough rigidify system would flow freely at lower stresses [1]. Implementing this idea time-dependent flows requires introduction new concepts including configuration-dependent ‘jamming coordinate’, alongside decomposition velocity gradient tensor compressive and extensional components which then enter evolution equation particle contacts distinct ways. approach [2, 3] qualitatively successful addressing (i) collapse stress during reversal flow, (ii) ability transverse oscillatory unjam system. However there much required refine quantitative accuracy, incorporating more under as determined close interrogation particle-based simulations.

Modeling the Time-Dependent Rheological Properties of Pistachio Butter
Pistachio butter (semi solid paste), which is made from roasted pistachio kernels, is an appropriate alternative to work on because of its high nutritional and economical values. In this study, timedependent flow properties of pistachio butter were determined at two different temperatures (25˚C and 45˚C) for five different formulations (with different levels of emulsifying agents). Forward a...
متن کاملDense colloidal suspensions under time-dependent shear.
We consider the nonlinear rheology of dense colloidal suspensions under a time-dependent simple shear flow. Starting from the Smoluchowski equation for interacting Brownian particles advected by shearing (ignoring fluctuations in fluid velocity), we develop a formalism which enables the calculation of time-dependent, far-from-equilibrium averages. Taking shear stress as an example, we derive ex...
متن کاملRheological Signature of Frictional Interactions in Shear Thickening Suspensions.
Colloidal shear thickening presents a significant challenge because the macroscopic rheology becomes increasingly controlled by the microscopic details of short ranged particle interactions in the shear thickening regime. Our measurements here of the first normal stress difference over a wide range of particle volume fractions elucidate the relative contributions from hydrodynamic lubrication a...
متن کاملRevealing the frictional transition in shear-thickening suspensions.
Shear thickening in dense particulate suspensions was recently proposed to be driven by the activation of friction above an onset stress needed to overcome repulsive forces between particles. Testing this scenario represents a major challenge because classical rheological approaches do not provide access to the frictional properties of suspensions. Here we adopt a different strategy inspired by...
متن کاملDiscontinuous shear thickening of frictional hard-sphere suspensions.
Discontinuous shear thickening (DST) observed in many dense athermal suspensions has proven difficult to understand and to reproduce by numerical simulation. By introducing a numerical scheme including both relevant hydrodynamic interactions and granularlike contacts, we show that contact friction is essential for having DST. Above a critical volume fraction, we observe the existence of two sta...
